In response to Bob's message about Bearda wills in Derbyshire, I thought this should be a new topic, rather than sitting under John Bearda.

I think I do probably have most of the wills for Bearda, Beardow, Beardall etc for Derbyshire, and am willing to transcribe them for this forum but this may take some time. I will list which ones I have copies of.

As you know, I have done a lot of research on the family, in Yorkshire and Derbyshire, and a long time ago put together a tentative link. I could put my thoughts down for you all, but what I would really like is for it to be subtantiated by real evidence, rather than me making suggestions. The wills do help with the linkage to a certain extent, but the real sticking point is still the parentage of John b 1783.

Wills list:

George Beardowe of Pilsley, yeoman. probate 20 Oct 1685 Chesterfield
John Beardah of Ripley, yeoman, probate Oct 1729 Lichfield
John Beardah of Crich, cordwainer, probate April 1699
Samuel Berdoe of Pilsley, yeoman, probate 7 Oct 1742, Chesterfield
John Beardall of Astwith, Ault Hucknall, probate 7 May 1761, Chesterfield
Ralph Beardow of Ashover, miner, probate 17 April 1777, Chesterfield
George Beardow of Ashover, farmer, probate 17 Oct 1805, Chesterfield
Thomas Beardow of Ashover, farmer, probate 25 April 1793 Chesterfield
John Beardah of Ashover, farmer, probate 12 April 1780
James Beardow of Northwingfield probate 26 Apil 1769 Chesterfield
Matthew Beardow of Ripley, admon April 1712 Heage
John Beardall of Ault Hucknall, inventory 27 Oct 1685 Chesterfield
George Beardow of Northwingfield, admon Oct 1703 Chesterfield
Thomas Beardah of Crich, draper and grocer, probate 18 April 1849 Alfreton
Samuel Beardow of Ashover, sawyer, probate 20 Feb 1830 Lichfield.

You will see the main focus of the wills is Ashover, with some earlier ones at Northwingfield and Pilsley. This is the area that I think our Bearders came from, but......proof is required!!

If you can scan them I can help with transcription.  But what might also help are wills from other branches, such as SWIFT and other surnames connected to BEARDAH.  It's surprising what names come up in wills.
